Hit or Miss? Part II

Hey everyone, this is Carol.  I just wanted to share my favorite looks from the Met Gala last night, as well as the ones that made me cringe...

Hit:

Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte for Gap
Another amazing creation by the ladies of Rodarte!  This dress is so pleasantly unconventional, and the detailing is absolutely gorgeous.  Kristen looks like an angel...hah, I'm obsessed with this

Blake Lively in Marchesa

Although I'm never a fan of this girl's hair (it's so pretty, she should be workin' it, not slicking it back!), I have to say she rocked this dress!  It's a work of art on its own, and Blake's long legs add that extra bit of oomph to the whole look.  And the color of this dress is gorgeous!

Vera Wang and Mila Kunis in Vera Wang

Oh Vera, you've done it again.  You've managed to create a beautiful mess.  Seriously, who else can make a dress so busy look so gorgeous?!  Mila looks absolutely stunning and Vera herself is as sophisticated and sexy as ever.  Miss Wang, you are a genius :)

Miss:

Eva Mendes in Dolce & Gabbana

Ok, I'm usually partial to anything Dolce, but this is atrocious!  I'm all for florals, but I think this dress is over the top- in a bad way.  Had the fabric been plain, I think she would've rocked this dress!

Rosario Dawson in Giambattista Valli

Dis-ast-er.  Seriously, this is like a five years old's Halloween costume.  The top and bottom are not at all cohesive, and it does nothing good for her body.

Elizabeth Banks in Gucci

From the mismatched lace on the dress and tights to the tacky feathers, this look just screams overkill. There is just too much going on here.  I think the only good part of this look is the shoes.

Let me know what you guys think!

Hit or Miss? Met Gala 2010

Met Gala 2010
Hit or Miss
By Abby

Let’s get right to it. This year’s Met Gala Theme was…..”American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” (what ever that means). Just because the theme sounds a bit boring, it does not mean the ladies did not dress to…I guess impress? So here’s some looks and whether or not I think they were hits or misses (I hope that paragraph made sense…I had a looooong day at school).

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
Hit
Oh JLO how I love your recent red carpet choices. Your fashion seemed a bit strange for awhile but now you are back and glamorous!! This dress fits her perfectly and she looks stunning! I cannot imagine how long it took to make that dress. I think I’d go crazy if I had to sew on all those crystals!

Katy Perry in Cute Circuit
Miss
I don’t know if she’s trying to match up with Lady Gaga or what, but that dress is weird!! Her fashion is usually slightly eccentric but with a cute retro vibe: This one, not so much. I do give her props for being able to wear a dress with electricity running through it but still…weirdness. The necklace isn’t helping either.

Sienna Miller in Pucci
Miss
This just isn’t working for me. It’s so messy and unfinished (sometimes unfinished looks chic but not in this case). She herself is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, but that dress is so distracting and well…ugly.

Anne Hathaway in Valentino
Hit
Purely amazing. It compliments her fair complexion, fits her amazingly, and you can tell that she absolutely loves it! The only, only, only, only con is that it looks a bit like the dress that Rachel Zoe dressed her in for an Academy Awards performance a few years back. But it’s still AHMAZING.

Rachel Zoe in Marc Jacobs
Miss
Dear Rachel Zoe,
I usually enjoy your style and the looks you pick for celebs. But it seems to me that when ever you look sickish, you can’t dress yourself. Please let Brad help you find a dress that fits.
Your adoring fan,
Abby S

ALSOOOOO I have a new blog (my personal blog) So check it out abbystaffieriblog.blogspot.com

So those are some hits and misses...look for Carol and Andrea's posts coming soon!

Water Marbling

I water marbled! Yay!

Its the coolest thing ever, I swear!

If you are going to do it, I strongly suggest watching a couple of youtube videos about it first, since it is very complicated. Heres the video I watched.

Heres how mine turned out

You will need:
Two or three [high quality, non-gloopy] nail polishes of your choosing. I used China Glaze Rich and Famous and China Glaze Up All Night.
Toothpick, or something pointy
Cup of water. Cold works best
Tape. I used masking tape.

Drop the colors alternating in the water, they should spread. After you feel you have enough rings, drag the toothpick through it to make a cool design, then put you finger in the design and before you take it out, clean up the remaining paint.

Basically, this is super hard [I think] My boyfriend helped me with mine [he was interested in the science of it!] You really have to experiment with it. I love how mine ended up turning out and I started some sort of revolution because now everyone is doing at my work and stuff haha!
If you try it, blog it and tell me about it!

1 More Day!

So right now, I am pretty much dying in anticipation.  Why?  In less than 24 hours the Zac Posen for Target collection will be available!  This amazing collection is exclusive to Target and will be available in stores nationwide.  Ranging from $16 to $200, this collaboration offers a wide range of women's apparel, outerwear, accessories and swimwear for a fraction of the price of Posen's runway pieces.  However, just because they're afordable don't expect them to be boring.  The designer boasts that in this collection you will find a tuxedo for women, dresses with detachable ruffles and Target's first-ever gown (among many other delightful things)!  These pieces are a fresh take on some of Posen's iconic pieces and offer a modern edge to classic looks.

This is one collection you won't want to miss!

To the Beach!

With summer just two months away, it's time to start thinking about summer make up.  When this time of year rolls around, everyone wants to look as smoldering as the sun, and this season, MAC's To the Beach collection has all the tools you need to look sultry and sunkissed.
This collection, ranging from $12 to $50, includes several different shades of eyeshadow, liner, lipcolor, blush, powder, nail laqcuer, and bronzer.  Special brushes that guarantee great application are also available, as well as a fabulous beach tote.

And as if the gorgeous shades aren't great enough, this entire collection is covered in whimsical sea prints.  Being fairly pale, I am really looking forward to trying out the Marine Life highlight powder ($26) as well as the eye khol in Float on By ($14.50).  What do you think of this collection?  Anything you're dying to try?

Looklet.com

My current obsession: Looklet.com
They give you models, you choose looks, and camera effects, and PRESTO you have a fabulous look! I just started yesterday and I have to say that I give this site two thumbs up! It's really the best thing out there for virtual styling. The site provides you with tons and tons of designer clothes (it's super easy to sort through it all) and you click and it goes on the model! Once on the model you can choose how/where some of the looks lay.

Here's some of the looks I created.

Seeing Turquoise

Am I the only person obsessing over the nail colors from Chanel's summer 2010 make up collection?  This collection, entitled "Les Pop-Up de Chanel", includes several vibrant shades for nails and lips.  I'm especially looking forward to the nail lacquers, specifically in Nouvelle Vague.  Its lively turquoise hue definitely adds that extra pop to any summer outfit, and I'm sure it looks absolutely stunning in the sun.  Chanel really knows how to do candy colors without being tacky and overdone :)  This collection will be available online and in select department stores starting in May, so start asking around if you want to get your hands (or nails, so to speak) on this amazing color!  Don't have thirty dollars to fork out on finger paint?  Try China Glaze's For Audrey nail lacquer

Liberty of London for Target

I visited Target tonight with my good friend Chelsea and all I saw right and left was Liberty of London! The kitschy floral style is not usually my type but there must be something about the way they are made, all of the items are so pretty!
They have clothes, swim wear, accessories, home items, stationary, boxes, gardening tools. Everything you can imagine in pretty florals just in time for spring!
I bought the Stationary Box for my sisters birthday.

I also have decided to be a grown up and start wearing heels more [we'll see how long that lasts] So tonight I bought these. I think they're quite sensible while still being sexy.

What do you ladies [and gentleman] think about Liberty of London for Target?

Spring Trend: Lace

Spring is coming and with it comes warmer weather, which means its time to shed those stuffy fabrics and switch to lighter ones, like lace! Which also happens to be one of Spring 2010's biggest trends!

There are two different ways to wear lace: Feminine lace & Rocker lace.

Feminine Lace
This type of look is so soft and pretty, girly dresses, and pearl necklaces, with nude heels can be worn to a tea party or can be taken more casual with shorts and a top hat and a ribbon.
I find that you can even pair lace with soft florals, just be careful not to overdo it.

Rocker Lace
The other type of lace style is on the other side of the spectrum. Studs and different shades of gray accompany the girly lace to toughen it up. Large accessories and chic blazers make this look one big statement after another!

Thanks to Jupe Boutique for inspiration!

Spring Trend: Florals

This is my absolute favorite spring trend; it never gets old, and nothing makes me feel as fun and flirty as a great floral piece! When thinking about florals, I tend to separate them into three categories: soft, bold and bright.
How to wear...
Soft Florals- Rather than overwhelm these lighter prints with bright accessories, embrace their softness with cardigans in neutral colors and ruffled pieces.  Tea parties and country girls come to mind when I see these prints, so draw inspiration from there.  Bonus:  Dress them down with some more casual pieces like trench coats and boots.
Bold Florals- These are the kind of florals that can stand on their own, so it doesn't take much to make them into a great outfit.  For a look as bold as the prints, pair them with simple heels and tights, or add ruffled pieces (matching a color that can be found in the print) to soften them up a bit.  Bonus: Go for a pair of lace tights!
Bright Florals- These are usually the most fun to work with because there's so much to do with them.  For a casual look, pair them with a simple cardigan.  You can also dress them up with big ruffles or bright heels.  Similar to bold florals, bright florals look great when paired with pieces that match a color found within the print.  Bonus:  Pair them with stripes!  This is a classic combo that really stands out when done correctly.  Blue and black stripes tend to work best.  Extra bonus:  Mix and match floral prints.  Though potentially catastrophic, this is a combo that can be absolutely stunning.

Happy spring!

Spring Trend: Brights

The warm scent of spring is in the air and following along are fabulous trends. Each of us will post about a different trend. If there's a particular one you want to see let us know by commenting below  ^_^

This Monique Lhuillier (Spring RTW 2010) is my favorite "brights" piece out of any collection. I just love the 20s flapper vibe with a modern twist. Anyways, with the photo are a couple trendy pieces that would be awesome on anyone. CAUTION: wear your brights in moderation otherwise you'll like you stepped out of a time machine from the 80s. That's the best piece of advice I can give you. Already wearing brights? Leave a link below to your picture :)

Academy Awards 2010 - The best and the worst

Below are some fabulous dresses and some not so fabulous dresses from this year's Academy Awards.

Cameron Diaz
Oscar De La Renta

Andrea: Cameron looks good. A dress like this one you can’t really go too wrong with. I was slightly disappointed because I was expecting more from her.

Carol: This was probably my favorite look of the night.  The detail on this dress is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the fact that she didn’t overdo the look with crazy hair and accessories.  The red lipstick and nail polish are the perfect finishing touches.

Abby: One of my favorites, you can’t go wrong wearing Oscar to the Oscar’s (haha).

Jennifer Lopez
Giorgio Armani

Andrea: Is it just this picture or does she look huge? I’m not a fan of architectural dresses in the first place, and in top of that that side poof is just not doing it!

Carol: To be honest, this dress kind of reminds me of the foam they use to rap fragile things…the style is very flattering though

Abby: Ummmm…no JLo…just no.

Charlize Theron
Christian Dior

Andrea: Why Charlize? Why?! This dress has so much potential, and then the boob flowers had to come in!

Carol: The color looks great on her, but other than that I’d say this is pretty disastrous.  The material is all wrinkled, and is it just me or do those rosettes scream “let’s look at my boobies!”?

Abby: OH MY GOODNESS. Ummmmmm...i like the color?

Elizabeth Banks
Versace

Andrea: I can’t bring myself to like this. Maybe it’s the frill; I think it’s too much. I think the bodice looks lovely on her though.

Carol: This is absolutely stunning- very sophisticated, pretty and not at all boring.

Abby:Gorgeous! It fits her beautifully!

Penelope Cruz
Donna Karan

Andrea: This dress is stunning. You really can’t go wrong with this material and color. The only thing is the bottom looks like it’s too big on her.

Carol: It’s a little been there, done that.  Great color, but it doesn’t flatter her body at all, and it’s a really cliché look.

Abby: This is a very “safe” dress for Penelope. Usually I’m wowed by her couture gowns but not so much this time.

Anna Kendrick
Elie Saab

Andrea: I just love nude tones! This drapes around Anna nicely, it sort of makes her look like a goddess. And the flower on the chest is the perfect addition.

Carol: I seriously can’t find anything I don’t like about this.  It’s so gorgeous from the flowers on top to the lace trim in the front.  I love the off the shoulder straps and the slit down the front- they balance out the innocence of this look with a little skin.  Absolutely gorgeous!

Abby:Probably my favorite dress of the night. It fits her beautifully, the color is fabulous, and it’s just a breathtaking Elie Saab.

Demi Moore
Versace

Andrea: One of my favorites of the night; again a jewel toned dress. Is it just me or does Demi look super fit? Is it the dress? I love the contrast in this, on top we have firm and almost sporty looking, and on the bottom its frilly and girly, with a flower accent, but just enough of both; a perfect medium.

Carol: For some reason this is really busy and boring at the same time…

Abby:  I love the bottom but it’s almost like the color is too close to her skin tone. I don’t know, I just feel like something is off with it.

What do you guys think?

Love,
All of us ♥

Fashion Merchandising - Buyer

Fashion Buyers are the personal shoppers for retail apparel companies. A Fashion Buyer maximizes the company's profits by making sure that the products on store shelves appeal to consumers.

This is my chosen career path, not that its important or anything. But I thought it would be good to know.
FIDM is the best fashion school in the country, to my knowledge and opinion. There just so happens to be one about an hour from where I live, so study on! I finally have a career in mind!

To all of your who are indecisive about your career path; don't sweat it. Don't let your parents tell you what to do, don't let anyone tell you what to do. Just live your life the way you do and it will come to you.

I promise.

Thank You Mr. Postman

I recieved a package from Forever 21 this week and just got around to posting about it :)  After a pretty hectic month, I figured I'd relieve myself with some spring shopping.  Here's what I bought:

a navy military-esque cardigan
a grey braided tank
a white button sleeve v-neck tee

grey booties
a blue scarf (it's really more vibrant and purple-ish, the picture doesn't do it justice)
set of black and white floral hair pins
silver glitter fake lashes (that last dollar until free shipping always gets me haha)

I can't wait to take these booties for a test drive :)  Gotta love Forever 21, huh?

Thank You Mr. Postman 2.27.10

I had a pretty bad week so I did some retail therapy :) Some stuff came right away and the rest came today here's what I got...(this was under $60 total!!!)

Style A to Zoe by Rachel Zoe
A great book on how to live a glamorous and glamorously relaxed life.
Interlocking Hearts Purity Ring
I already had a purity ring but it was so bulky and I couldn't wear other rings with it. Now i can :)
Meet Mark (by Avon) Eyeshadow Brush
I had some cheap-y shadow brush before and it literally broke in half and I've had to keep sticking it together for the last couple weeks.
Meet Mark (by Avon) Lash Plumping Mascara
I thought I ordered an eyeliner brush but I guess not....oh well this works too!
Signatureminerals.com Make Up Samples
For free (+ shipping) you can six make up samples of your choice from this site. I got a couple metallic shadows, some matte, a pearl one, and in the container is a shimmer-y translucent powder.

Designer vs. Forever21

I found this AHMAZING blazer at Shopbop.com and I am totally drooling over it. Unfortunently, I don't have a job right now and don't have money to shell out for this fabu blazer. So, I decided to look for a similar blazer. I found this great linen blazer from Forever21 that I actually like better because it has less structure to it. What do you think of my find?

It's Abby!

Hey all it's Abby here! I'm soooooooooooo excited to be blogging with two of my most fashionable friends! :)
We all met via Kaboodle. It's kind of the best place on the internet. :) Fashion and shopping all in one place AND really nice people! :)

I'm 16 and I hope to be getting my license in a month and a half but I don't have enough hours in =/
I'm a sophomore in high school and this is my first year back in public school and I absolutely LOVE IT!
I'm a Christian :) (non-doniminational)
Oh! I live in Pennsylvania...i hate it and can't wait to get into a big city!

I'm hoping to major in fashion merchandising and I would DIE if I got to go to college in CA...it's my favorite place ever!

Anyways, my style is rather eclectic although it's starting to have more of a vintage-y style. Most of my clothes are from Forever21 (I have no job) but I love Urban Outfitters and H&M type stores. The clothes and accessories that aren't F21 are most likely American Eagle, designer via MARSHALL'S :D, or from my grandma's closet (she has kept almost all of her mom's jewelry and handbags). :)

You can e-mail all of us at gaggleoffashion@hotmail.com :)
So send us any requests, pictures of outfits you need help with, and what not. :) <--you could end up on the blog! ;)
